Admissions Process Year 7 September 2007

The Supplementary Information Form for admission into year 7 in September 2007 will be available from the school in September 2006. Your Local Education Authority will provide you with their application form and guide for transferring from primary to secondary school in September 2006 also. It is essential that you complete the application form provided by your Local Education Authority stating the order of preference you have for schools for your child.  That form must be completed and returned to your Local Education Authority by 6th November 2006 and our Supplementary Information Form must be completed and returned to the school by 13th November 2006. The school will rank all applicants against its admissions criteria by using the Supplementary Information Form. Applicants who currently live outside of England should contact Essex County Council's Education Authority (Tel 00 44 845 6037627) to make their application but must still complete the Supplementary Information Form and return it to the school.

An open evening will be held on Thursday 28th September 2006 for future pupils and parents
to look around the school. During the evening there will be a Headteachers' Talk. Tickets for this
will also be available from September 2006.

Notes

·         Applications should be made to your home Local Education Authority using their form and placing this school as your first preference if that is your choice.

·         You must also complete the school’s supplementary information form and send it directly to the school by the published deadline.

·        The school’s Admissions Panel use the supplementary information form to rank applicants in order of their correspondence to the admissions criteria.

·         This list is then sent to Essex LEA who match offers from this and other schools so that parents gain their first choice school if possible or the highest offer compared to the list of preferences made by the parents.

·         The rank order provided by each school is applied until all places are filled.

·         The LEAs are expected to co-ordinate these admissions so that applicants from outside of Essex are treated equally and notified properly.

·         There is no way of “playing the system” in this new national admissions arrangements, it is essential that parents place their order of preference with their first choice first.

·         School’s do not know your order of preference but if you have applied to us and been given an offer to another school and want to know how your application was dealt with here PLEASE CONTACT US, we will be able to tell you if your application was ranked higher than anyone else who was admitted.

·         All unsuccessful applications will remain on the waiting list until September.  Anyone wishing to remain on the waiting list after that date must notify the school before 1st September.

·         Applications received after the closing date will be considered but parents should be aware that late applications are likely to be unsuccessful due to the filling of places in the first round.

·         The school recognises that people moving into the area may not have had an opportunity to apply within the deadline and such applications are considered in line with Government guidance.

·         Schools in the Brentwood area remind parents that all of the schools are likely to be over subscribed and parents are advised to apply to more than one school.

Important (see also Guidance on the Admissions Criteria)

·         Applications should be made on the school admissions form.

·        Applications should be received on hard copy but initial applications can be received by e-mail from overseas applicants only.

·         As a comprehensive school we do not hold interviews with prospective Year 7 parents or pupils to ensure equality of opportunity for each applicant.

·         Applicants with limited skills in the English language are encouraged to ask for help and if possible an interpreter will be made available.
