As you are aware, our work experience programmes for both Year 10 and L6th students for 2020 were launched in October. We believe that a placement in the workplace is vital for our students in preparing them not only for employment but for life, enabling them to not only experience the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the world of work but to develop into rounded and confident individuals.
Please note that we have moved the work experience application process to our online portal this year – portal.aesessex.co.uk
Full details of the options / rates / forms / deadline of dates can easily be found in the work experience section on the portal. As this is a shared portal with the International Office, any parents who have already registered as part of the Visits application process can use the same log-in details and do not need to re-register. If not already registered, parents will need to do so by going to the portal above where you can create your own user name when registering for the first time. As part of the registration process you will receive an email to activate your user id, please check your junk mail if you have not received it.
Please follow these steps…
Step 1 – If not already registered on the Visits portal go to – portal.aesessex.co.uk. and register. If already registered on the visits portal log in as usual using your same log in details. Click on the work experience button to access the work experience page with information and forms.
Step 2 – complete and upload the Consent form on the portal as soon as possible.
Step 3 – Actively support your child in seeking out and securing one placement either locally/nationally or overseas for the designated time. AES does hold a database of local employers from which placements can be sought but if this is used there may not be a choice of type of work as contacts will be offered on a first come first served basis. Once verbal agreement has been made with an employer about a placement, parents complete the Employer Placement Introduction Form on the portal, upload it and make the appropriate contribution on ParentPay. Should an employer wish to see the school paperwork/placement form at this stage the Introduction form can be printed off from the portal and given to them to be returned to us at AES.
If a student is intending to do a placement overseas then the Overseas Information on the portal should be read before completing & returning the Overseas Residential Form.
Once the Employer Placement Introduction Form has been received by AES, the AES team will then contact the employer to obtain further necessary information about the placement then process, check (including insurance and health & safety checks) and authorise the placement.
Should you need any further help or advice regarding the process/contributions please contact the Enterprise department on our dedicated work experience email addresses – Year 10 firstname.lastname@example.org. Sixth Form email@example.com
