Economics

Economics is a dynamic social science. The study of economics is essentially about dealing with scarcity, resource allocation and the methods and processes by which choices are made in the satisfaction of human wants. As a social science, economics uses scientific methodologies that include quantitative and qualitative elements.

Sixth Form:
A Level Economics (Eduqas)
Students sit three exams at the end of U6.
• Paper 1 – Economics Principals
• Paper 2 – Exploring Economics Behaviour
• Paper 3 – Evaluating Economic Models and Policies
Students study a variety of theories from both the “micro” and “macro” perspectives of the economy and build an appreciation of the complex nature of both the UK and global economy.
All resources can be found in the shared area, which include lesson resources, exam questions, case studies and wider reading materials.

IB Economics:
We offer both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level Courses (HL). Both have an examination and Internal Assessment element to the courses.
The courses are divided into four sections:
• Microeconomics
• Macroeconomics
• International economics
• Development economics
This course encourages students to develop international perspectives, fosters a concern for global issues and raises students ‘awareness of their own responsibilities at a local, national and international level.
All resources can be found in the shared area, which include lesson resources, exam questions, case studies and wider reading materials.

Enrichment:
The department run an annual “day in the city” visit for selected groups. Previous visits have included the Bank of England, Lloyds of London and Blackrock.
The department organises guests speakers through the “Conversations With” seminar series, which all students in the department are invited to attend.
