Physical Education

The Physical Education (PE) Area is staffed by a dedicated team of well-qualified and specialist teachers, led by a management team under the overall direction of the Heads of Department.

The Heads of Department has overall responsibility for all key stages and for the vision and ethos of the department, for curriculum development and staff development needs. Mr T Cuff- Co Head of Department and Ks3 coordinator, Mrs L Coldham- Co head of department and Sixth form coordinator, Mr S Crossley – GCSE Coordinator and BTEC coordinator, Miss J Gregory, Miss A Whitlock – Head of Year, Mr N Richards – Head of Year, Mr D Priestley – Assistant Headteacher.

In year 7 all students are taught in single sex groups. After the first term, students are split according to ability and remain in single sex groups. These sets continue throughout years 8 and 9, and are reviewed at the end of each summer term. Changes to groups can be made according to a student’s performance and effort throughout the year.


We offer a comprehensive range of extra-curricular activities before school, during lunch and after school. These include the following;

Autumn/Winter Terms:

Rugby, Netball, Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Trampoline, Cheerleading, Dance, Fitness and GCSE PE theory clinic. After school, clubs for TaeKwondo, Badminton, Basketball and Multi Sports are available. Competition Gymnastics club is held before school.

Spring/Summer Terms:

Cricket, Rounders, Tennis, Swimming, Athletics, and Table Tennis. After school, Multi Sports club. Competition Gymnastics club is held before school.
