GCSE Preferences

The application window for GCSE Preferences is March 4th – 8th

Year 9 GCSE Preferences process 2024

As we are now in the spring term, this always signals the time for Year 9 students to start thinking about their GCSE preferences for next year.

We started the process in the autumn term with the parent information evening and the next stage of the process is for Year 9 to have an assembly to talk them through what they have to do and how they should make their choices. This assembly will take place on January 22nd. There will also be parents’ evenings on 8th February for 9X and 15th February for 9Y.

Course Counselling: each student will be seen by a senior member of staff to discuss which subjects they think they would like to study and if those choices fit with any future plans they may be forming.  The “Course Counselling” window is 12th February – 1st March.

Parents are invited to read the PowerPoint presentations and watch the subject videos below with their child in order to learn more about what each subject looks and feels like if studied for GCSE. Each presentation and video has been created by the department of each subject. Please click on the links to the PowerPoint presentations below to download them and click on the videos below to view them.

I will continue to communicate with parents throughout the process and there will be a letter via Edulink at the start of February, confirming the subjects in the option blocks.

If you have any general questions about the process, then please email the school enquiries@aesessex.co.uk for my attention.
