International Curriculum

A Truly International Family

Children join us from all over the world to develop an international community in the local village of Ingatestone, affectionately known as ‘the Anglo Family’. Over sixty home languages are spoken by our students and staff. A culture of high academic standards rooted in traditional values and a modern global outlook underpin the school’s success. Our mission is to offer a curriculum through which internationalism echoes at every step both in the classroom and through the multitude of international activities offered both here and abroad.

International Visits Programme

As part of our curriculum, every student in the school, apart from those taking exams, is expected to spend time abroad each year either on residential or as part of our extensive exchange programme. We offer opportunities that are not equalled in a Comprehensive school in order to truly embed fluency in the languages studied and to foster an appreciation of the culture and heritage of the countries visited.

We have a network of partner schools, institutions and collaborations across the globe from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa, Lesotho, Russia, China and Japan with whom we work each year in order to open the world to our students and theirs. We work with the IOE Confucius Institute (UCL) as a Confucius Classroom and deliver the Mandarin Excellence Programme, partner with UNESCO, as well as working closely with the United Nations projects. We are very proud to have won the British Council International Schools Award five times.

International Dimension in the Curriculum

Every subject is committed to enhancing the international dimension within their curriculum area. Curriculum maps show where international learning takes place within the scheme of learning. Teachers will also take every opportunity to develop and enhance students’ understanding of each other’s cultures, traditions and heritage through wider discussion and debate related to the lesson in focus. The curriculum taught in school is further enhanced by learning through the International Visits Programme.

All students, staff and our alumni belong to the Anglo Family and as a school we are dedicated to encouraging our students to become internationally-minded citizens who will be powerful ambassadors for our vision.
