Working in Partnership

One way parents contribute to their child's success is by supporting their daughter/son at their parents' evening when they can hear about progress being made in all subject areas. We were delighted, therefore, with the recent 95% turn out for our Year 11 parents' evening. We all know the importance of supporting our current Year 11 in achieving their potential at the end of the current academic year. Last week, many of our Year 11 students and their parents attended our International Sixth form Open Evening. One of the points that were made was the need for young people to be able to equip themselves to enter the global market. At a time when language learning is not compulsory at Key Stage 4, our students already stand out by their successes in this area. The offer of 7 languages is a unique feature of the school.

In the summer of 2012:-

•       81% of students achieved A*-C in one language
•       63% achieved this in two languages
•       43% of students gained an A* or A grade in a language
•       100% of students studying Japanese, Russian and Chinese gained A*-C.
•       72% of students achieved A*-C in French with the same percentage in German.
•       86% of students achieved A*-C in Spanish
•       95% of students achieved A*-C in Italian.

Thank you to all those who attended Year 11 Parents' evening and our Sixth Form Information Evening in support of their daughter/son in such an important year.

GCSE Students Continue the Upward Trend in Examination Achievements

Anglo students have continued the upward trend in examination achievements despite national changes which have caused a fall in the award of higher grades, particularly in English.

31% of Anglo students have achieved 5 A* or A grades compared to 23% last year.  Despite the national concern over English Language, 71% of our students have gained 5 A*-C grades including Mathematics and English.

80% have gained at least 5 A*-C grades and 100% have achieved at least 5 A*-G grades including a language, a humanity, a technology and an arts subject.  This broad curriculum is a defining feature of the Anglo and it prepares our students very well for the next stage of their educational journey. It will be no surprise, therefore, that the school has performed very well with the new performance measure, the English Baccalaureate.  41% gained an A*-C in English, Mathematics, Science, a language and Geography or History.

As you would expect, all our students have achieved a pass in at least one language and 25% have achieved an A* or A in two languages.  There have also been outstanding performances in individual subjects and we are delighted with the progress departments have made.

We recognise and appreciate the significant efforts of our staff, students and parents in this success.

The majority of our Year 11 will now join a number of students from other schools in September to pursue an A level or International Baccalaureate Programme.  With today’s GCSE results we are confident that the outcomes in 2014 for these students will continue to enhance the reputation of our International Sixth Form which has already been judged outstanding by OfSTED.

If any student or parent has any questions about our sixth form please contact the school on 01277 354018 or

PE Teacher World Squash Success!

Anglo European School's PE teacher Jackie Gregory finished 11th in the World Squash Final. Jackie told us:  This competition takes place every 2 years for men & women squash players in the Masters age group.

This year the tournament was hosted in Birmingham in July. There were 58 different countries playing, strongest contingencies from England, South Africa and Germany.

Having trained on court with my coach Chris Vine and trained in fitness in the gym. I won my first match in fighting form 3-1 against a girl I previously lost too! and continued strongly through the tournament to be knocked out by the No5 seed from South Africa 2-3, a close and tough match, finishing in the top 11.

Really pleased with my performance and thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way both within school and outside.

Now back on court and training in the gym for this seasons competitions!

A Marvellous Set of Results for our A level Students

Once more, the Anglo is pleased to announce a marvellous set of results for our A level students.  They show a continued improvement with the proportion of higher grades increasing and lower grades decreasing.  This is counter to the national picture where the proportion of these grades has fallen. Together with our IB students, members of the Anglo European International Sixth Form have averaged the equivalent of two A grades and one B grade each (an average of UCAS 320 points).  As previously reported our IB students averaged 32 points which is 3 points above the world average.  This continued improvement  further strengthens our sixth form which was declared outstanding by OfSTED in 2011.

We have seen a trend where some students who have fallen short of their university offer are still being offered places which we believe is a tribute to them as young people and to the rounded education (including a language)  they have received.  This year we have 3 students who have successfully applied to the universities of Oxford or Cambridge, two are going on to study medicine and one student who has secured one of five scholarships at the National Audit Office.  All of our students in the  first cohort of IB Career-related Certificate (which includes two A’ Levels and two IB Standard subjects and the core)  students have all been accepted in to their first choice universities.

Please be aware that these are provisional results and there will be errors identified in marking or remarks requested which may lead to changes.

All of our 146 Year 10 and Lower Sixth students have returned home safely from their 10 day exchange visits to France, Spain, Italy and China. Our Year 10 students who went to Frankfurt for two months are also back with us as are our Sixth Form students who have had work placements in France and Germany whilst living with host families.

We are delighted that we continue to have the parental support which ensures that this key aspect of our International work is so successful.
