Anglo European School recently hosted an INSET day to up-skill primary and secondary teachers in Dance. Several Brentwood Primary schools took part in an all-day workshop ran by the Royal Opera House. During the day teachers were given the opportunity to explore and develop their dance skills with the aim of helping teachers deliver the ‘Create and Dance’ course to their students. This ten-week programme has been created to give Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 pupils an introduction to creative dance and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The aim of the programme is to create a short dance, inspired by a theme from Alice and linking to curriculum topics or school projects.
The exciting learning objectives and activities were given to the teachers in an intricate scheme of work. There is a lot of scope for differentiation, and cross-curricular work in other lessons, to complement the students’ understanding of creative dance. Online resources such as videos from members of The Royal Ballet helped with the fluidity of the day – sharing important strategies to help the students create a successful dance.
The Anglo European School will now be supporting the participating primary schools with their Arts provisions throughout the summer term. The Create and Dance project will culminate in a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, hosted at the Anglo European School on Thursday 20th June for The Great Get Together.
