Anglo Welcome Chinese Visitors

To celebrate the Fifth Anniversary  of the Essex – Jiangsu Centre for Chinese Studies a group of senior officials, headed by Wu Xiaomao, the Director-General of the Nanjing Educational Bureau, visited the Anglo European School on October 3rd. The purpose of their visit was to review the Jiangsu Centre’s work and to further promote the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture here in Essex. The Anglo European School and the Harlow Education Consortium have co-hosted the Jiangsu Centre since it was first set up in 2008.

Whilst at the Anglo European, Director Wu talked of his hope that the cultural and friendship links between Jiangsu and Essex will continue to grow and strengthen in order to increase understanding between East and West. He stressed the importance that young people play in this by their openness to new experiences. After an exchange of gifts the Delegation went on a tour of the school and were treated to a performance of a Chinese folk song, sung by the Year 10 Mandarin class. Marco Grilo, 10E, greeted the Delegation in Chinese. They were very impressed by the level of Chinese reached after only one year of study and encouraged the students to visit Nanjing in the future.
