A number of 6th form students at Anglo European School recently took part in a “Brave the Shave” event to raise money for Sarcoma UK in memory of their school friend, Tom Smith, an Upper Sixth student who sadly passed away on Christmas Eve, after a long battle with a rare form of cancer.
Tom had been fighting the illness which was first diagnosed at the time of his GCSEs. Despite the challenges this presented, he progressed to the Sixth Form to study A levels in Sociology, Travel and Tourism and PE and Spanish ab initio. Tom dealt with his illness with enormous dignity, bravery and calmness.
Throughout his illness, Tom was supported by his family and a group of very close friends, who now wish to engage in a programme of events to honour his memory and raise money to prevent other young people losing their life to cancer. One of the more ambitious projects in the programme is their intention to raise enough money to build a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) for the students at Anglo European School, in Tom’s memory. Headteacher, Jody Gee said, “We would like to pay tribute to the manner in which our 6th form students have responded to such a tragic event and the commitment they are showing to raising money in Tom’s memory.”
