The Sixth Form students were lucky enough to have Jim Smith from the Anthony Nolan Trust visit today as part of the Sixth Form speaker programme. Jim spoke about blood, stem cell and organ donation.
At the end of the presentation, the students were given the opportunity to take away forms which allow them to sign up as blood or organ donors with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). The presentation was extremely thought provoking as it featured many case studies of students of a similar age to them. The message delivered was one of hope as the Anthony Nolan Trust is instrumental and very successful in finding matching donors all around the world. Our students listened respectfully and asked many thoughtful questions, before a huge percentage of them took away registration forms to hopefully add to the next generation of what Jim called, ‘Life Savers’.
