Representative of Esperanto UK Visits School

Mr Roy Threadgold, a representative of Esperanto UK visited the school to give a presentation to sixth form students on the language of ‘Esperanto’.

Esperanto is a man-made ‘international’ language used to promote international discourse. The first book detailing Esperanto was published in 1887, explaining how it was designed to enable people with different native languages to communicate effectively whilst still retaining their own languages and cultural identities.

Mr Threadgold spoke to students about the origins of the language, uses today and gave details of a distance learning course should they wish to embark on learning this very different language which will not only help them with their present language learning, but also offer the opportunity to converse with other Esperanto speakers around the world during their travels.
