The Upper Sixth Refugee CAS Group, led by Scarlett Pochet, hosted an overnight Camp Out in aid of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). 39 Students from the Sixth Form took part, sleeping on school site and participating in multiple activities including games of rounders, a refugee themed quiz and a treasure hunt around the school to find the essential items required for camp living, ensuring an enjoyable but thought-provoking night. Students provided their own shelter, creating a small settlement of around 12 tents, and most importantly raised money for a very worthy cause. We would like to thank all students, parents and members of staff who donated and made this event possible. £380 has been raised so far through this and other activities. Over half of all refugees around the world are under the age of 18 and often lack the security of their family, home and school, which we in the UK often take for granted. While we are a small group, we believe that our local action can be part of a much larger global effort to save lives, protect rights and secure a brighter future for over 70 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
