School Library Resources Wish List
We are always looking to increase and improve our resources and would be very grateful to any parents, alumni, and friends of the Anglo who could purchase items for the Library, from our Amazon Wishlist. Thank you!
Library Information
The main Anglo European School Library is open throughout the school day and is a vibrant, busy and popular area of the school where students are able to study, work and read in an engaging environment.
As well as 30 computers, all linked to the internet with coloured printing ability, there are numerous tables and seating areas for individual and/or class use. There are also sofas and comfortable chairs to enhance quiet reading time and an excellent, well stocked selection of resources to facilitate effective study and support wider reading.
All students are encouraged to use our wide range of exceptional and diverse resources available to them within the library for assistance and progress with their studies, as well as for leisure and general interest. All students can access our online catalogue – Oliver. There are over 10,000 resources in our collection. Our fiction collection contains a large variety of books chosen to appeal to students of all ages, ranging from contemporary fiction to established classics as well as a growing selection of foreign language books. Our graphic novels and Manga sections are especially popular.
The reference and non-fiction areas contain resources selected, in conjunction with our teaching staff, to support learning across all subjects; as well as information books relevant to students’ interests and hobbies. We also offer a selection of magazines (including The Week Junior, BBC Focus, BBC Good Food, The Economist) and newspapers.
All students have access to a large selection of Key Stage 3 and GCSE Study Guides covering all the main subject areas.
There is an ongoing programme to review and update our stock to ensure this collection remains inviting and relevant. Recommendations are always welcome and we love fulfilling student requests.
All students are automatically members of the library and can borrow up to three resources at any one time for a maximum of three weeks.
What’s happening in the Library
We have activities, competitions and events taking place in the library throughout the academic year to encourage students to read and learn for pleasure. We regularly organise themed book displays linked with local, national or international topics.
We actively encourage students to take part in literary competitions such as the BBC’s 500 Words competition. We also organise events for National Poetry Day and World Book Day among other activities.
School Reading Scheme and Library Lessons
All students in years 7 and 8 take part in one library lesson per cycle. The Librarians have developed a comprehensive reading and library skills programme for these lessons. We subscribe to the Scholastic Reading Pro reading scheme. Each term every Yr 7 & 8 student completes a Reading Pro reading assessment. This assesses a student’s lexile level/ reading ability, enabling the Librarians to recommend books appropriate for each student.
Sixth Form – William Tweed Reference Library
All Sixth Form students have access to a dedicated Sixth Form Library situated within the Sixth Form Centre. This William Tweed Reference Library collection includes academic resources, study guides, periodicals and careers information tailored to meet the needs of our students.
Study Club
The Main School Library also hosts the school’s Study Club This unique resource is open to all pupils every day before school from 8am, during lunch time and after school until 5pm.

We also encourage students to become ‘Library Assistants’ whereby students wishing to become more involved in the day to day running of the school library can learn more about what goes on and play an active role.
