Our in-house Work Experience Programme for 2018 has now been launched at the Year 10 Parent Information Evening and briefings held with our year 10 students, so now is an appropriate time to embark upon securing a 2 week placement of their choice either locally, nationally or internationally for Monday 4th June 2018 – Friday 15th June 2018 (inclusive).
We believe that work experience is vital for our students in preparing them not only for employment but for life, enabling them to not only experience the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the world of work but to develop into rounded and confident individuals. We believe we know our students far better than any external work placement provider and so have for the past 7 years organised our placements completely in house so that our students and families can feel reassured that the best possible experience will be accomplished. The positive benefits of this experience are clearly visible on students’ return to school – from a greater focus on learning to achieve their aims, increased maturity to make informed career choices and a better understanding of what the world of work entails. View the You Tube clip below, produced by one of our students, to see how she benefited from her placement.
Due to the continuing current financial climate we are in we are again asking for a contribution to enable work experience to take place. This will cover the cost of organising and following through placements along with completion of essential health and safety checks and arranging paperwork. Sadly it is still no longer possible to meet this expense from our school budgets. We have 2 options in place to enable you to make an informed decision about the suitability of the type of placement you wish for your daughter / son. Please see the attached Work Experience booklet for full details of options / charges / deadline of dates.
In securing placements students should maximise the unique opportunities available to them being part of the Anglo European School – tap into links they may have made not only within our local community through active citizenship and fundraising days but also through their increased global awareness and contacts they may have from previous /current exchanges, as well as family and friends. To be able to combine work experience with developing language & cultural skills is a unique opportunity open to them and we will actively encourage and facilitate both international and third sector (eg voluntary/charitable) placements.
Should potential employers wish to interview your daughter/son before the placement this is standard practice and we are happy to accommodate this, ideally outside school hours, but should this prove difficult to arrange, students should collect an “Interview Request Form” from Mrs Bell or Mrs Duranza Green, to be completed & returned for approval before the interview. We would like to suggest the school holidays as a suitable time for interviews so that no academic work would be missed.
We would be very keen to hear from you if you would be able to offer a placement to our students, whatever field of business it is in. The more diversity we can offer our students the more individual needs can be met. Mrs Bell and Mrs Duranza Green will be more than happy to discuss any possibilities with you.
To secure placements two forms need to be completed by the specified deadlines as below. The Medical and Consent form should be completed & returned to us along with the Placement form which has been initially taken to the employer for completion. Additional paperwork is required for Overseas Placements and any student considering this should see Mrs Bell / Mrs Duranza Green in the Enterprise Education Office in C Block (Room C32) to discuss the intended placement and to collect the relevant forms at the earliest opportunity.
We have included the latest health & safety guidelines for work experience for your information.
Should you require any further information / assistance please contact Mrs Bell or Mrs Duranza Green (Enterprise Education Assistant) in confidence, on 01277 351943 or via our dedicated work experience email address – firstname.lastname@example.org
