Curriculum Routes and Subjects

There are four routes through the International Sixth Form at the Anglo, each of which is designed around the principles of a baccalaureate curriculum. Each route is therefore broad, rigorous, internationally-minded and built around a set of core experiences. Whichever route is chosen sets Anglo students apart in the employment and university market.  Please note that the matriculation requirements for the A Level Route differs from the other 3 Routes. Our "base" matriculation is 5 grade 5s, including English. Please see below for individual route and course requirements.

We require that the student has obtained a grade 6, or above, at GCSE for any subject that they wish to study at Higher Level and a grade 5, or above, for any subject that they wish to study at Standard Level. Students have the option to study languages on any of the above Routes at IB or A Level, but also have the option to select an introductory language. 8 languages are taught in our Sixth Form and we strongly recommend that students choose a language course.

Our ‘Core’ Curriculum

In addition to the subjects studied, all Sixth Form students develop a portfolio which demonstrates their readiness to enter the dynamic and globalised world after completing their studies with us. The ‘core’ curriculum components are:

  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – Students choose groups which develop student leadership and service to others. Experiences include: organising a Christmas party for local elderly residents, organising Year 9 Enterprise Day, organising PE activities for younger students, organising Model United Nations day and many more.
  • Tutor period – Students attend assemblies hosted by a range of external guest speakers.
  • Citizenship – Students learn about personal finance, relationship and sexual education and the UCAS and next destination process using the Unifrog careers portal.

Additional requirements:

  • All students are expected to have achieved the minimum of a Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics by the time they leave the Sixth Form, therefore those who matriculate without a Grade 3 or below will need to join the GCSE Mathematics re-sit group.
  • For those wishing to study Mathematics at IB and A Level,  these courses in the Sixth Form also have additional matriculation requirements therefore please read the matriculation requirements carefully.
  • Students not achieving GCSE Grade 5 in English may still be considered for a place in our Sixth Form after consulting Year 11 teachers about the likelihood of success on chosen courses and the possibility of a re-sit.

GCSE Resit English and Maths

To matriculate for our Sixth Form, students should gain 5 grade 5s including English.

If students have a grade 3 or 4 in English or Maths, then AES will pay for the first resit. Students will have a resit class on their timetable.

If students have a grade above a 4 and wish to resit, then they must pay for their entry.  If students have to resit more than once, then they pay.

It is usual that the first entry is November, but with conversation with the teacher and student, it can be agreed that the first entry is the summer.
