Meeting Requirements of 16-19 Study Programme
How does AES International Sixth Form meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?
Requirement:
All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial technical, applied or academic qualification(s) or preparation for employment.
AES evidence:
All AES curriculum routes are Level 3 programmes, which are composed of a wide variety of academic qualifications ranging from A Levels, to IB qualifications. They are designed to stretch students and prepare them for their next level of education or employment and our curriculum maps demonstrate their intent.
All of our Sixth Form students, both internal and external, will receive a course guidance meeting with a senior member of staff at the time of application and post GCSE results to ensure that that each study programme is tailored towards their prior attainment and career goals.
Students who do not hold a GCSE grade 4 in maths and/or English are required to continue these subjects as part of their study programme. Students are provided with time on their timetables to study and retake these subjects. In addition, we also encourage students who did not attain a grade 5 in either subject to elect to join these classes to widen the opportunities available to them post Sixth Form.
All study programmes include a two week work experience placement, which can be abroad, and non-qualification activities which complement their academic programme. These include, CAS, Citizenship, student leadership committees, academic projects, and Tutor Period, all of which develop students’ character, skills, attitudes and confidence and support their progress on to higher education or employment.
