A Level, IB Route (AIB)

In order to study on the AIB route, students must first meet our general matriculation requirement of 5 GCSEs grades 9-5 including a grade 5 or above in English. Evidence of an international perspective is required for external students, together with a satisfactory reference from their current school

The majority of the A Levels that we offer require that the student has obtained a grade 6, or above, in the subject at GCSE in order to study it at A Level and a grade 5, or above, for any subject that they wish to study at IB Standard Level.

This is an opportunity for A Level students to add elements of the IB to their academic portfolio.  This option involves a student taking three A Levels with either an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) or one  IB Standard subject.  Taking an IB Standard subject is the broad equivalent to studying at just over an AS Level over 2 years and therefore cannot be dropped after the Lower Sixth.

This option is particularly useful if you are a Science based student who wishes to continue studying a Language or Humanities subject, or if you are an Arts based student who does not wish to stop studying Mathematics, for example IB Standard courses can be chosen from Humanities, Languages, Arts, Mathematics or English. However, due to timetabling restrictions it is not possible to take A Level subjects with some IB Standard Science subjects. Additionally, it should also be noted that the odd student may choose a subject combination which may result in limited amount of lessons clashes, however the Sixth Form team will advise the student accordingly on how to manage these.

  • All A Levels will be 2 year Linear courses, externally examined in June 2025
