Lead School for National German A Level Classroom

Amongst the highest performing subjects this year was German; Anglo European School is delighted to have been designated a National Lead School for German A level. The ability to speak advanced German is a distinctive skill that is highly sought after by employers and in our school, German speakers greatly enhance their employability.  
 
Amongst our student successes today, Jacky is celebrating achieving an A grade at A Level. As part of her GCSE course, she took part in the 8-week German exchange and then in Year 12, travelled to Frankfurt as part of AES’s international work experience exchange where she worked at a local Kindergarten and later to Vienna. Today Jacky celebrates achieving A*AAB. She is hoping to travel and return to Germany to visit her exchange partner again before she starts her degree at the University of St Andrews. Pictured today with Mr Cardy, her very proud German teacher, Jacky said, “The study of German is so important to keep this language alive and current. The language is unique in terms of its grammar and dialect. “When we visited Vienna with the school, I was surprised how different the dialect was there, and this makes the language rich and fascinating to study.” 
 
 
 
Melissa, who is celebrating achieving an A grade in German today and looking to pursue a career in veterinary science, also took part in the Frankfurt exchange. “German is a wonderful language and it's so important to understand different cultures and traditions.” 
 
The strength and success of our German department, led by Kevin Jepson, has been recognised nationally. We know that in many schools, due mainly to financial constraints, many students may not have the opportunity to continue their study of languages in the Sixth Form. To address this issue, the Goethe-Institut, the NCLE, the Anglo-European School, and Languages for All have developed an innovative hybrid model for A Level German.  Mrs Peeters will lead the teaching at Anglo and the Goethe-Institut, will deliver part of the course online through a shared national class, while external students from around the UK will complete the course with their own teachers in their own schools, combining expertise from national experts and class teachers. We feel very privileged to have been chosen to develop innovate languages solutions with the DFE to enable young people across the country to realise their ambition to study German at A level.
