International Curriculum - Sixth Form
Students join us from all over the world to develop an international community in the local village of Ingatestone, Essex where we are affectionately known as ‘the Anglo Family’.
Internationality runs through everything that we do. The International Baccalaureate shapes both our curriculum offer and our philosophy with regards to the skills and abilities that we want our students to develop during their time at the school. Each subject within the school embeds the use of multicultural and multilingual examples to fully embed this ethos as an element that is more than just in the name of our school.
The range of languages we offer, both European and further afield, differentiates us from other schools and helps our students to foster a real understanding of other cultures, and also empowers them to communicate with peers in other countries as part of our visits programme.
Exchanges & Visits
This progressive programme reaches its pinnacle in the Sixth Form culminating in international work experience for our Lower Sixth students to France, Spain, Germany, Italy and China.
This is further bolstered by our curricular residentials in Geography and Biology and cross-curricular international residentials that enrich our students understanding of the world. This features significant visits to Auschwitz, the UN and CERN in Geneva, alongside new visits to Singapore and Iceland.
All of these aspects combine within our citizenship curriculum that aims to build on British and International values and equips our students to be truly global citizens.
INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION IN THE CURRICULUM
Every subject is committed to enhancing the international dimension within their curriculum area. Curriculum maps show where international learning takes place within the scheme of learning. Teachers will also take every opportunity to develop and enhance students’ understanding of each other’s cultures, traditions and heritage through wider discussion and debate related to the lesson in focus. The curriculum taught in school is further enhanced by learning through the International Visits Programme.
WHICH LANGUAGES DO WE TEACH?
The Anglo offers 7 taught languages as well as English as an additional language, these include French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian or Spanish.
Learning languages is central to the school’s mission and one of the key pillars of the curriculum. Languages are offered at a variety of levels in the Sixth Form from beginner to Higher Level IB and A Level.

LANGUAGES OUTREACH
The school supports primary schools and secondary school colleagues and we also train languages teachers. This can involve delivering enrichment days, teacher training to develop the primary international curriculum, language teaching and hosting teachers for CPD and students for Challenge Days. Our Student Language Ambassadors help organise and deliver this work.
